The Potters Cup Weekend at Potters Resort in Hopton-on-Sea is always a popular event and this weekend was no exception. Triples fought it out in the International Arena attempting to lift the trophy in an event that has been staged here for over a quarter of a century. The final was contested between Thetford’s Cat Walker, Peter Harvey & Jason Martin who faced Terry Newby of Carleton Rode, Peter Grundy of Hevingham & Trish Taylor of Diss. The Thetford triple had been on top form all day and proved too hot to handle for their opponents as they raced into an 8-0 lead after four ends and held on to win by 9-2. Jason Martin displayed the kind of form that has furthered his ambitions to play for Norfolk at I.C.C level while Peter Harvey & Cat Walker hardly put a foot wrong. It is incredible to think that only a year ago Cat Walker picked up the Most Relaxed Triple award after finishing last in the competition while this year has seen her form improve so much that she has lifted the prestigious trophy. The Potters Shield final was won by Ian Cornwall of Shropham, Graham Mobbs of Diss & Arthur Jackson of the North Yorks SMBA. They did not drop a shot as they produced a 10-0 win against Linda Smith, Margaret Reynolds & Ivan Lunn. It was certainly a surprisingly convincing win against a skip with the quality of Ivan Lunn who is known to be a formidable opponent. On Sunday the annual Potters Cash Pairs was played with Linda Smith & Ivan Lunn of Derbyshire playing Thetford’s Peter Harvey & Jason Martin who were now in pursuit of a Potters Weekend double. Unfortunately for the Thetford pairing the Derbyshire pair were determined to avoid the defeat they suffered in the triples on the Saturday and won the Cash Pairs Final by 11-4. Cyril Cole & Will Townsend of Hingham won the third place play-off beating Harling’s Jill & Colin Hayman by 14-3. Next year’s Potters Cup Weekend All-Inclusive 3 Night Break begins on Friday 17th September 2027 with prices from £489 per person. Entry to the event is on a Full Board basis including breakfast, lunch & dinner, late night snacks and drinks included throughout your stay. Entry into the Potters Cup on Saturday is included while you are free to enjoy first class entertainment each evening in the Atlas Theatre. Non bowlers are also welcome to book and take part in the Daytime Activity Programme and have full use of the Sports & Leisure Facilities. The East Coast Triples Short Mat Bowls Break for the Over 50’s is a 4 Night break at Potters Resort starting on Monday 3rd May 2027. This break is almost sold out so anyone interested should contact the Organiser Teresa Goldsmith as soon as possible. Since its launch a few years ago this holiday competition has received extremely positive feedback from short mat bowlers. The Potters Pairs 4 Night Holiday Break starting on Monday 2nd November 2026, which was sold out some time ago, can now welcome limited new bookings as Potters Resorts have made a few more rooms available.
