Costessey made a winning start to their City of Norwich League campaign with a surprise 12-2 home win against defending champions Horsford Heroes. Wendy Tweed, David Newell & Graham Tweed edged their way to an 11-8 win against former Norfolk Singles champion Roger Frank and his triple while Eugene Gillan, Nigel Grimes & Daphne Matthews beat Lynn Frank, David Dewing & John Aggas. After the break Pam Chapman, George White & John Chapman scored Costessey’s third win of the night beating David Crosby’s triple 15-5. Carol Aggas, Mally Kemp & Sue Fox of Heroes stopped Costessey picking up maximum points with a 14-8 win against Mike Ottaway’s triple. Another unexpected result saw Horsford Blue win 11-3 away to Windows with Ruth Ruddock, Richard McPhee & Keith Ruddock storming to a 17-4 win against Andy Drummee’s triple. Janet Seaton, M Pegg & Malcolm Makins added a 13-8 win for the Blues against ex County Council bowler Nigel Hurn while Ken Reynold’s Horsford Blue triple drew 12-12 against Keith Halford’s Window’s triple. Windows only win was produced by Wendy Cheal, Pat Williamson & Mark Tuttle with a heavy 19-7 result against Dennis Seaton’s triple. Thorpe Marriott are expected to be one of the title contenders this season but its now two defeats from two games after they lost 12-2 at Horsford Gold. Gold’s Ray Ayers skipped his triple to a big 25-9 win against Gerald Potter’s triple, Craig Quantock’s triple beat Derek Sheldrake 12-7 and Chris Walsgrove’s triple beat Aleck Haynes 12-8. Marriott’s two points were earned by Jenny Walker, Mandy Marshall & Robin Amos who beat Mick Dale’s triple 13-5. The result leaves Horsford Gold as the early season pacemakers sitting top of the table with 24 points, eleven points clear of second placed Windows.
