In the super small but super strong Bure League points do not came easy but visitors Hevingham pushed Watton Expendables all the way before slipping to a three shot defeat. In the first half Hevingham’s Aleck Haynes, Pat Hall & Richard Moore stunned the home triple of Andy Rawnsley, Chloe Suffolk & Chris Willies as they took a full house on the second end and led 8-2 after three ends. Moore’s triple still led after six ends before the Watton triple scored nine shots over the next two ends to lead 17-9. The Hevingham triple continued to look for a way back as they won five of the next six ends and trailed by just 18-16 going into the final end but the Chris Willies skipped triple took one shot to complete a 19-16 win in an extremely competitive game. Things were just as tight in the other first half game as Hevingham’s Steve Easter, Teresa Goldsmith & Selwyn Goldsmith made a good start to lead Andy Taylor-Balls, George Hume & Jack Marshall 6-3 after six ends. A tight encounter followed in a game that was level at 10-10 after ten ends before Marshall’s triple edged ahead to lead 14-12 going into the final end. After the Hevingham skip had played his last wood his triple held three shots to put them into a winning position but England international Jack Marshall drew in a perfect final bowl to clinch a 15-12 win. The second half also produced two excellent games. Watton’s Elaine Willies, Robert Howlett & Robin Amos dropped three shots on the opening end against Hevingham’s Jenny Walker, Lesley Turner & Brian Turner but responded well to lead 11-6 after nine ends and held on to win 14-11 despite the visiting triple winning the last three ends. The last game in play saw Hevingham’s Paul Speak, Billie Barker & Melvyn Barker in action against Watton’s Gillian Amos, Kacy Suffolk & Simon Willies. The game was level at 3-3 after five ends before two counts of three over the next two ends saw Melvyn Barker’s triple move ahead 9-3. After that Barker’s triple held the lead throughout and going into the final end led 15-8. On the last end the Hevingham triple needed two shots to share the match points, with three needed to earn both match points, but had to settle for an excellent 15-9 win as the home side scored a vital single shot. This left the overall result 8-2 on points, 57-54 on shots, to Watton Expendables.
