Bure League AGM held at Hevingham

The Bure League Annual General Meeting was held at Hevingham Village Hall last night. Despite the league featuring many of the top bowlers in Norfolk the number of clubs remains at just four. The league will continue with the new system brought in last season to maintain the number of games played to twelve each over the course of the 2026/27 season. The Bure League will be played to a finish prior to Christmas with all games scheduled to take place between the 20th September and the 20th December with ten points available to earn in each match. The Bure Cup will also be played on a home and away league format played between the 1st January and finishing by 31st March but will use the points system adopted last season based on total shots scored across the four games. This earns the winning team 2 points if they win by up to nine shots, 3 points if they win by above 9 shots and up to 19 shots. 4 points are earned if a team wins by more than 19 shots and up to 29. The maximum of 5 points are earned by any team winning by above 29 shots. If teams finish equal on total shots the match is drawn with each team earning one point each. The dates and venues were decided for the Bure Singles, Pairs and Triples Championship events and a draw conducted to decide playing order in each event. The Bure Triples will be hosted by Watton Expendables on the 15th April, the Bure Pairs will take place at Hevingham on the 20th April and the Bure Singles will be hosted by Halvergate at their Upton venue on the 30th April. The defending champions will receive a seeded entry into each event with the four Bure clubs nominating their entry for each competition. Defending champions are Ryan Fox of Halvergate in the singles, AJ Pye & Jack Pye of Bob Carter in the pairs and Gavin Gray, Morgan Warnes & Jack Pye of Bob Carter in the triples. All current Officers were re-elected to their positions. Selwyn Goldsmith of Hevingham remains as the Bure League Chairman, Competition Secretary, Results Secretary and Bure Cup Secretary. Keith Cooke of Halvergate is Vice-Chairman, Lianne Mills of Halvergate is Bure Secretary and Elaine Willies of Watton Expendables is Bure Treasurer. In his report the Chairman said that Bob Carter almost certainly fielded the strongest team in any of the Norfolk leagues as they retained both the Bure League and Bure Cup titles in style while also lifting both the Bure Triples and Pairs titles again. He said that the only title to elude Carter was the Bure Singles won by Ryan Fox of Halvergate. He also reminded club delegates that the rulebook states that "persons not engaged in the game shall be situated clear of and beyond the limits of the rink mat and they shall neither by word or acts disturb or advise the players." Club were also reminded that match cards must include the full names of the players and that initials or nicknames etc were not acceptable.
