Norfolk Over 60's win in Easingwold

Norfolk Over 60’s travelled to North Yorkshire for a long weekend with the main feature a challenge match against Arthur Jackson’s Select on the Saturday at the excellent Galtres Centre in Easingwold. There was also an enjoyable friendly match on the Sunday where the bowlers playing at number two in both teams switched with the opposition and prizes were awarded to the top triple in each side. Norfolk Over 60’s held the shield from the last challenge match when Arthur’s Select had visited Norfolk and Norfolk Over 60’s Organiser Teresa Goldsmith was delighted to see her team retain the shield with a 73-55 points win. Norfolk’s top triple on the day were Val Vardy of Wymondham, Christine Walsgrove of Horsford BC and Sue Fox of Horsford Heroes who won three games and drew one game for a seven point total. Six points were earned by six Norfolk triples. They were Lesley Turner, Mick Harris & Brian Turner, Morris Taylor, Trish Taylor & Terry Newby, Gillian Amos, David Blundell & Robin Amos, Jenny Walker, Pauline Wilson & Andy George, David Chadwick, Will Townsend & Colin Hayman and Geoff Payne, Teresa Goldsmith & Selwyn Goldsmith. On Sunday the top triple comprising of two Norfolk and one opposition bowler were Geoff Payne of Saxlingham Nethergate, Sue Parton of Knaresborough & Selwyn Goldsmith of Hevingham. The top triple from the group comprising two Arthur Jackson Select bowlers and one Norfolk Over 60’s bowler were Mitch Moody of Durham, Pauline Wilson of Hingham & Derek Hickford of Durham. They were all awarded a bottle of wine each by Arthur Jackson of North Yorkshire CSMBA. The hot weather enabled the visiting bowlers to enjoy three lovely evenings in the gardens of the welcoming Burn Hall Hotel in Huby just minutes from the venue. On the trip home on Monday bowlers stopped for a couple of hours in Harrogate before continuing their journey home. Unfortunately the journey was delayed as the coach broke down on the A1(M) but a replacement coach was quickly summoned to pick up the bowlers from the roadside.
