Cup holders struggle at Woodbastwick

Bure Cup holders East Tuddenham have a mountain to climb if they are to reach the second round after a heavy 18-6 points defeat at Woodbastwick. The home side got off to a flying start as Brian Bunting, Tony Wright & Willie Jefferies stormed to a 10-1 win against Elaine Willies, Joe Brown & Melvin Woods and David Brawn, Les Harman & Derek Sheldrake beat Billie Barker, Melvyn Barker & Chris Mann by 8-5. But the cup holders hit back quickly with Gillian Amos, Gerald Potter & Robin Amos beating Mel Barrett, Brian Frost & Peter Jablonowski 6-5 and Jean Woods, John Turner & Simon Willies beating Margaret Capps, Norma Jablonowski & Margaret Harman 7-3. The third session though saw Woodbastwick restore their lead as Derek Sheldrake’s triple beat Melvin Woods 9-6 while Willie Jefferies’ triple beat Chris Mann 9-5 to earn their team an 8-4 points lead at the break. The fourth session was shared with Margaret Harman’s triple winning 6-3 against Robin Amos while Simon Willies beat Peter Jablonowski 7-3. But it was Woodbastwick all the way from there as they won the remaining four games. Willie Jefferies’ triple won their third game of the tie 6-5 against Robin Amos, Derek Sheldrake’s triple did likewise beating Simon Willies 5-4, Margaret Harman’s triple scored their second win beating Chris Mann by 12-1 and Peter Jablonowski’s triple broke their duck beating Melvin Woods 7-3. In the Bure League East Tuddenham emerged with a 6-4 home win after a tough match against Hevingham went to the wire. In the first half Elaine Willies, Melvyn Barker & Melvin Woods gained East Tuddenham valuable shots beating Gill Bunn, Alan Bunn & David Sharpe 19-4 but Teresa Goldsmith, Joan Costello & Selwyn Goldsmith kept it level on points beating Albert Palgrave, Jean Woods & Simon Willies 13-10. After the break a superb 20-5 win by Hevingham’s Pat Williamson, Marjorie Hall & Steve Hall against Billie Barker, Chrissie Turner & John Turner came close to handing the away side a dramatic win but a great last end by Gillian Amos, Gerald Potter & Robin Amos saw them beat Richard Moore, Chris Brooks & Maurice Kemp 19-11. Thorpe Marriott won 6-4 at home to Horsford Heroes with Sheila Redwood, Peter Walker & Tony Turner leading the way beating David Davitt, David Foster & Mick Dale by 21-8 while Richard Perkins, Ted Redwood & Kath Frost added a 15-7 win against Vic Webster’s triple. Horsford’s points were earned by Chris Woodhouse’s triple beating George Clarke 14-12 and John Aggas’s triple beating John Jarvis 15-10.
