Heroes move top of City League

The intriguing title battle at the top of the City of Norwich League continued after the Christmas and New Year break. Horsford Heroes now occupy the top spot after a 14-0 maximum home win against British Rail with David Brown, Roger Frank & David Crosby leading the way with a heavy 22-3 win. Rival title contenders Thorpe Marriott suffered a shock away defeat at Costessey where they went down 10-4. Costessey skips John Chapman and Daphne Matthews both won by enough shots to secure the match points. At the other end of the table bottom club Jarrolds won for only the second time this season beating visitors Horsford Blue 12-2. In the first round of the City Shield Horsford Gold were held to a 4-4 draw by visitors First Bus in the first leg of their cup tie. Ray Ayres’ Horsford triple were in great form winning by 24-0. Only one match was played in the Breckland League with Connaught “A” winning 8-2 at home to Harling. This result moves them to just six points adrift of leaders Wymondham. Top triple on the night were David Aldous, Graham Etteridge & Paul McDonald who won 16-9.
