Defending City of Norwich League champions Horsford Heroes began their league campaign with a 10-4 home win against last season’s runner-ups Thorpe Marriott. While Lynn Frank, Sue Fox & John Aggas gave Heroes a good start beating Richard Perkins’ triple 11-3 Sylvia Turner, Pat Hall & Gerald Potter replied for the visitors with a 15-10 win against David Crosby’s triple. The second half followed the same pattern with both teams winning a game apiece but 38 shots against 32 earned Heroes the six match points for the 10-4 home win. Chris Woodhouse skipped the winning Heroes second half triple to an 11-7 win against Tony Turner’s triple while Marriott’s win was provided by Janet Pinchen, Lesley Turner & Brian Turner who beat Chris Brooks, David Dewing & Roger Frank 7-6 in a low scoring game. Windows finished fourth last season and will hope to continue to improve to a level where they can mount a title challenge. They visited Jarrolds for their opening game with the home side hoping to avoid a repeat of last season when they finished at the foot of the table. Di Boswell’s triple opened with a 14-5 win for Windows but Mike Smith, Lyn Couzins & David Higgins scored a win for Jarrolds on the other mat beating John Wade’s triple 12-5. Another win for Jarrolds followed in the second half as Anoop Dhesi’s triple won 13-11 but a 13-9 win for Pat Williamson, Paul Brock & Mark Tuttle saw Windows over the finishing line with a 10-4 away win. A local derby at Horsford Bowls Club saw Horsford Gold win 12-2 against Horsford Blue with Sally Bates, Brian West & Chris Walsgrove skipping their Gold triples to wins. Ken Reynolds was the only Blue skip to win beating John Bugg’s Gold triple 15-8.
