Bure Cup title race going to the wire

With Halvergate and Bob Carter level on points in the Bure Cup table, and the only two matches left to play the home and away fixtures between them, last nights game at Halvergate was sure to be a hotly anticipated encounter. With Bob Carter featuring four of the World Championship heroes who spent the weekend in Norway representing England the home side knew they would have to be on their top form to maintain their unbeaten Bure Cup record this season. Donna Lamb, Matthew Mills & Ryan Fox got Halvergate off to a winning start beating World Triples finalist Jason Woods and his triple 16-8 but World Triples Champion AJ Pye hit back as his triple, with young Alfie Woods at lead and Jack Gray at number two, beat Jamie Forster, Lianne Mills & Robbie Lamb 12-7 which left Halvergate with a narrow three shot lead going into the break. The second half produced an enthralling 12-12 draw between Carter’s David Knights, Gavin Gray & England star Gary Best against Halvergate’s Ray Lamb, David Crosby & David Lamb but in the other game Halvergate’s Kerry Greenacre, Steven Lamb & Keith Cooke scored a vital 17-11 win against Melvin Woods, Simon Warnes & another World Championship winner Jack Pye. This gave Halvergate an overall 52-43 shots win earning them 2 league points, frustratingly for Halvergate just one shot short of earning three points. The result leaves Halvergate on 17 points with a +107 shot difference against Bob Carter’s 15 points and +86 shots. The return match at Carter’s Drayton venue could be the match of the season with Bob Carter needing a 3-0 home win to clinch the title.
