Harling entertained Wortwell in the Norwich Cup and clever use of their first wildcard enabled Harling to establish an early lead which they maintained throughout. The home side won the opening two ends to lead 6-0 before playing their first wildcard on the third end and that proved to be a profitable move. The four shots they scored were doubled to eight under the wildcard rule to move them into a 14-0 lead and their second wildcard played on the next end earned them two more shots for a 16-0 lead. Wortwell then clawed shots back with three singles followed by an excellent count of five shots on end eight to reduce the deficit to 16-8 and after eleven ends the deficit was cut to just six shots which gave the visitors hope. Harling though gradually increased their lead and after nineteen of the thirty scheduled ends they led 25-13.Wortwell then used the first of their wildcards on end 20 but their plan backfired as Harling scored five shots to increase their lead to 30-13. Wortwell’s second wildcard was used on end 25 but again they lost the end as Harling moved into a 34-15 lead. Harling added three shots on the next end and then added six thanks to their third and final wildcard on end 27 where they collected three shots which counted as six to put them 43-15 ahead. The final score after the thirty ends was 45-17 to Harling with Wortwell’s third wildcard on the last end failing to pay off yet again. Harling’s eight players used over the 30 end game were George Hume, Joy Neave, Linda Chilvers, Jean Deathridge, Jill Hayman, Colin Hayman, Nigel Battley & Paul Rogers. Wortwell’s line-up was Keith Horsford, Robert Banbury, Tom Bell, Chris Roberts, Colin Colden, Archie Andrews, Anita Lambert & Mary Huggins. In the next round Harling will entertain the winners of the Halvergate v Watton Expendables tie.
