Suffolk pair triumph at Potters Resort

The Potters Pairs, played at the fabulous All-Inclusive Potter’s Resort at Hopton-on-Sea, produced an exciting climax in front of enthusiastic fellow bowlers when it went to an extra end in a terrific final. Suffolk’s Andy Noble and Donna Mills faced George Hume of Norfolk and Michael Rice of Suffolk in the final. Noble & Mills had finished clear winners of their group after three days of play with nine wins and just one loss. The new pairing of Hume & Rice won their group by just two points ahead of last years winners Maria Kitchener & Ivan Lunn of Derbyshire. In the final Noble and Mills won the opening three ends to lead 4-0 but by the end of the seventh end the scores were level at 5-5. Once again the Suffolk pair edged ahead and with three of the scheduled ends remaining they led by 10-7. But Hume and Rice again came back at them and by taking two shots on each of the next two ends took the lead for the first time in the game by 11-10 with one end to play. Noble and Mills scored a vital shot on the last scheduled end to level the game at 11-11 and force an extra end. A terrific final was finally decided by a superb bowl played by the talented Donna Mills to clinch victory with both pairs drawing much deserved applause from spectators. In the third place play-off, between the runners-up of both groups, last years winners Maria Kitchener & Ivan Lunn of Derbyshire beat Charlie Waling & Derek Retchless of Cambridgeshire by 18-7. The game had been quite even up to halfway before Ivan Lunn’s consistency made the difference as his pair won five of the last seven ends. The Presentation Ceremony saw the first four pairs all receive Potters Bowls Holiday vouchers. Next year’s Potter’s Pairs event organised by Norfolk’s Teresa & Selwyn Goldsmith starts on Monday 2nd November 2026 and with the vast majority of competitors already booking their places there is already very limited capacity remaining.
