City League Triples heats played

The City of Norwich League Triples heats took place this week with four venues used. At Costessey Stephen Davis, Nigel Hurn & Mark Tuttle of Windows were worthy winners while runners-up Gavin Gray, Richard Perkins & Derek Sheldrake of Thorpe Marriott also qualified for the final’s night scoring six points and +20 shots. Another Windows’ triple won at the British Rail venue with Alan Cheal, Keith Halford & Andy Drummee coming out on top. At the heat hosted by First Bus at their Aylsham Road venue Costessey’s Daphne Matthews, Cynthia Powell & Graham Tweed were the top triple on the evening while Thorpe Marriott’s Jenny Walker, Janet Pinchen & Gerald Potter claimed the second best runner-up qualifying spot with six points and +10 shots. British Rail’s Caroline Banham, Pat Baker & Mark Baker were the winners at Horsford BC at the excellent Sandy Lane venue. Haddiscoe moved to the top of the Waveney League after beating Wortwell 6-3 in their top of the table clash. Bradwell won away to Carlton and are in third place while Broome’s 6-3 win at Ilketshall puts them in fourth place level on points with Bradwell. Both Carlton and Ilketshall are still without a win after suffering four defeats in a row. Breckland League action saw defending champions Wymondham ease their way to a 10-0 maximum points victory at Hingham. Billie Barker, John Jeffries & Chris Mann top scored with a 32-7 win backed up by Robin Frost, Debbie Sparham & AJ Brown with a 23-9 win. Jack Marshall, Melvyn Barker & Jack Pye won by 24-11 and Wymondham’s final win was by Simon Warnes, Andrew Jackson & Jon Sparham who won a tight game 16-13 against Will Townsend’s Hingham triple. Connaught B will be pleased with a rare victory winning 6-4 at Shropham. Peter Hambling, Di Quadling & David Quadling led the way beating John Griffiths’ triple 27-10 while Ann Bayes, H MacMillan & Joan Knox beat Andy Rawnsley’s triple 19-10. Shropham’s winning triples were David Youngs, Phil Drake & Peter Walker who beat David Flatt’s triple 20-8 and Pat Godbold, Kathy Girling & Jim Delaney who beat Julie Bruiges’ triple 19-12. In the South Norfolk League East Harling won a corker of a match at Mulbarton by just one shot to secure a 6-4 away win. Mulbarton had made a great start with Daphne Spalding, Dennis Wells & Helen Devereux winning 16-10 against Ian Beckford’s triple while Chris Partner, Andy Grimes & Martin Pegg had beaten Ian Hartley’s triple 15-7. But after the break Harling made a great comeback to clinch victory by the narrowest of margins with Keith Messent, Gwen Messent & Laurie Harris beating Marga Kempenaar’s triple by just 17-16 while Linda Chilvers, Ron Marsh & Nigel Battley stormed to a 19-5 win against Martin Salisbury’s triple to snatch an away win for Harling. Bradwell Dynamos top the Coastal League three points ahead of Bradwell Robins after winning 10-4 at Gorleston Links Blue. Bradwell Robins won 12-6 away to Bradwell Acorns in their local derby. Another local derby saw Woodbastwick Eagles win by 10-8 at home to Woodbastwick Owls. In the Afternoon Winter League Thetford made it three wins on the trot with a 9-1 home win against Watton. Kate Crawshaw, Chloe Suffolk & Peter Harvey top scored winning 26-1 which followed an 8-2 away win at Shropham Green where Brian Jermy, Kacy Suffolk & Peter Scarborough won 13-8 for Thetford.
