Gary McNabb on top of the world

Northern Ireland’s Gary McNabb retained the SMPT British Open Championship title beating James John-Davies of Wales by 10-6 in the final to take over the number one spot in the SMPT World Rankings ahead of fellow Irishman Mark Beattie. It is a remarkable fifth SMPT title win for McNabb. Lee Toleman won the Plate Final beating Andrew Carr 12-10 while Daniel Sands won the Shield Final beating Mark McHugh 9-6. Norfolk’s two competitors, John Jeffery and David Blundell reached the first knock-out round before being eliminated. John Jeffery finished fourth in his group to qualify for the Plate section and lost 13-2 to Steven Stafford while David Blundell finished fifth in his group and then lost 14-5 to Alan Howard in the Shield section.
