Norfolk win in East Hanningfield

Norfolk played the away leg of their annual friendly match against Essex “B” at East Hanningfield and achieved their usual win, this time by 28-12. The Norfolk side included two guest players, Ann Biddulph of County Council and Colin Hayman of Harling. The match was played with eighteen players representing each side, two singles, two pairs and four triples in each team. In the singles Wymondham’s John Jeffrey (pictured) won his games by 24-8 & 17-10 while David Blundell of Wortwell lost his first game 16-13 but won his second by 13-10. Essex “B” fared better in the pairs where Angela Bond of County Council and George Clarke of Thorpe Marriott lost their games by 16-4 and 15-10. Jenny Walker of Thorpe Marriott and Mike Smail of Forncett won their first game 15-10 but lost their second game by the same margin. Norfolk racked up the points in the triples winning seven games and losing just one. Ann Biddolph of County Council, Jill Hayman of Harling and Steve Hall of Hevingham won their games by 16-10 and 23-3. Hevingham’s David Sharpe and Joan Costello, playing with Harling’s Colin Hayman, won their games by 13-7 and 17-7. The third triple to achieve two wins were Jean Woods of Bob Carter, Elaine Willies of East Tuddenham and Ray Lamb of Halvergate who won by 21-8 and 17-8. Steven Lamb of Halvergate, Peter Walker of Thorpe Marriott and Simon Willies of East Tuddenham won their first game by 11-10 and lost their second by 8-6. Norfolk collected the bonus points in the singles and triples while Essex “B” gained two bonus points in the pairs.
