Bob Carter on easy street in Tens

Bob Carter reeled off two more maximum 4-0 wins in the Tens League to move miles ahead of any other team. It looks like defending champions Halvergate, who went through last season unbeaten, will have to be content with the runners-up spot this time round after going down at Carter’s Drayton venue. Gary Best & Morgan Warnes beat Ryan Fox & David Lamb 20-7 in the first half and with Melly Woods’ triple beating Simon Warnes’ triple 13-8 the home side led by eighteen shots at the interval. With Jason Woods’ triple adding a second half 23-11 win it was all over for Halvergate although Robin Amos & Keith Cooke scored a 19-10 win for the visitors against Simon Willies & John Turner. The visit of Hevingham saw Carter record another big win. In the first half Melly Woods’ triple beat David Sharpe 18-8 while Simon Willies & Jamie Forster beat Pat Williamson & Marjorie Hall 18-10 in the pairs to give Carter another eighteen shot interval lead. After the break Jason Woods’ triple, with Jason playing with his brand new Concorde bowls, stormed to a 31-3 win. In the second pairs game Morgan Warnes & Gary Best beat Teresa & Selwyn Goldsmith 20-13 with Best playing some killer woods when the Hevingham pair threatened in the closing stages. It is certainly interesting to see Concorde bowls back on sale after so many years. The photo shows Jason Woods, with his new coloured Concorde bowls, comparing them with Selwyn Goldsmith’s old Concordes which the Hevingham bowler has used with great success throughout his many years in short mat bowls.
