Bob Carter’s hopes of retaining the Tens League title all but evaporated as they suffered a meltdown in the opening pairs game of their home match against rivals Hempnall. Jean Woods & Gary Best had no answer to the onslaught as Owen Cranston & Jack Pye of Hempnall cruised to a 26-3 win at a venue where away wins are rarely seen. On the other mat Kerry Greenacre, Rob Cranston & Chris Mann did their bit for the visitors as they held Steve Bridge, Rob Howlett & Simon Willies to a 12-12 draw. Taking an unexpected 23 shot lead into the second half Hempnall’s aim was to deny Carter the chance of a comeback and despite Carter winning both games they could only reduce the overall deficit to eleven shots leaving Hempnall celebrating a 3-0 away win and the double over Carter after earlier beating them 2-0 at home. The second half games saw Jason Woods & Jamie Forster beating Roger Parker & Neil Davidson 16-9 while Nigel Willard, John Turner & Melly Woods beat Lewis Cranston, David Blundell & Paul Baker 15-10. The result leaves Hempnall top of the table but Halvergate, just one point behind with three games in hand, must now feel the title is theirs to lose.
