After beginning their City of Norwich League campaign with a stunning win against defending champions Horsford Heroes, a trip to First Bus left Costessey on a bus ride back down to earth as they slumped to a 14-0 maximum defeat. Mac Carmen, David Sharpe & Steve Hall began the onslaught with a 27-3 win against Graham Tweed’s triple while Nigel James, Linda Tooes & Jane James beat John Chapman’s triple by a more conservative scoreline of 9-6. But after the interval First Bus moved back into top gear with Colin Coman, Dave Quadling & Bob Oatway winning 27-4 against Daphne Matthews’ triple and Di Quadling, David Riches & Lesley Crowe beating Mike Ottaway’s triple 26-1. British Rail were quickly on track to success in their opening league game away to Horsford Blue which ended in a 12-2 away win. Carol Johnson, Pat Baker & Caroline Banham opened with a 16-6 win against Dennis Seaton with John Knights, Dawn Banham & Mark Randell adding a 12-6 first half win. After the break Peter Johnson, Peter Wright & Leslie Webber added a 10-7 win against Stefan Skrzynski’s triple to ensure the victory but a 14-6 win by Ruth Ruddock, Richard McPhee & Keith Ruddock earned the home side two consolation points. The first City Shield match of the season saw British Rail win 5-3 at home to Jarrolds. Their top triple on the night was Carol Johnson, Pat Baker & Caroline Banham who won by 15-7.
