Pye wins at Potters

Jack Pye of Wymondham stepped in as reserve to play with Alex Kley and won the SMPT Potters Grand Prix at Hopton-on-Sea when they beat Dimitri & Jonathan Payne of Belgium 11-6 in the final. The event only attracted a small entry of twelve pairs which allowed everyone to meet in a round robin over the weekend before the top four pairs met in the semi-finals of the main competition, the next four met in the semi-finals of the Plate and the bottom four played in the semi-finals of the Shield. Therefore all contestants could rightfully claim to have reached the semi-final stage! Kley & Pye had finished top of the twelve pairs with only an 8-7 defeat to second placed Steve Puttock & Mike Wright spoiling their copybook. The Paynes finished third in the round robin with Swedish pair Joel Häger and Jonas Häger clinching the last of the main event semi-final places. Pye & Kley beat Joel Häger and Jonas Häger 13-10 in the semi-finals while the Paynes beat Steve Puttock & Mike Wright 11-6. The Plate Final was won by Marc Verzee & Sibe Laureys of Belgium who beat Steve Stanton & Emily Thomas 11-7. The Shield Final was won by Gunnar Frantzen and Tone Bøe of Norway who beat Daniel Neyt & Adrienne Soudan of Belgium 12-4. Alex Kley & Jack Pye are shown being presented with their prizes by Laura Ashling of Potter's Groups Team.
