First Bus top of the tree for Christmas

The final fixtures in the City of Norwich League before Christmas saw First Bus overtake Thorpe Marriott to lead the table by two points after a 12-2 away win at Horsford Blue. Betty Cox, Matthew Mills & Lianne Mills were in great form beating Gary Mathewson’s triple 18-6 as former Norfolk Player-Manager Lianne Mills turned on the style. With Bob Oatway’s triple winning 14-8 and Glennis Holmes’ triple winning 15-14 First Bus moved two points ahead of Thorpe Marriott in the table although Marriott have a game in hand over the new leaders. Keith Ruddock’s triple earned Horsford’s only win on the night beating Jane James’ triple 12-8. British Rail picked up only their second win of the campaign, and in the process damaged Windows title hopes, as they beat their visitors 10-4. In a match where both teams won two games each the six match points were safely secured by British Rail due to a heavy 18-6 win by Peter Johnson, Pat Baker & Caroline Banham against Keith Halford’s triple. Costessey entertained Horsford Gold and the result, an 11-3 win for Costessey, left both teams with five wins and five defeats each at the Christmas break and both much further down the table than they would like to be. The top scoring triple were Costessey’s David Newell, Malcolm Southgate & Graham Tweed who beat John Bugg’s triple 21-5 with John Chapman’s triple adding a 17-7 win against Mike Doddington’s triple. Mick Dale’s triple collected the visitors only win beating Mike Ottaway’s triple 14-7 while the remaining game between D Matthews and Ray Ayres was drawn 9-9.
