New signings impress at Wymondham

New signings AJ Brown and Trevor Brown were selected for Wymondham’s team at home to Shropham in the Breckland League. This gave them both an opportunity to demonstrate what they could bring to an already hugely successful Wymondham team who have dominated this league for years. AJ Brown skipped a triple, with Hayley Osbourne at lead and Simon Warnes at number two, and passed his audition on the notoriously difficult Wymondham mats with a resounding 35-2 win. Trevor Brown also impressed at number two in Debbie Sparham’s triple which had Steve Easter at lead, they won by 28-11. The other results were in keeping to what we have seen so many times at Wymondham with Mary Fisher, Andrew Jackson & Jon Sparham winning 37-1 and David Chadwick, Melvyn Barker & Jack Pye winning 37-3. The result, 10-0 on points and 137-17 on shots, sends out the clear message that it would take a miracle for any team to come close to challenging Wymondham in the Breckland League this season. In recent seasons Carleton Rode have battled with Connaught “A” for the second spot in the table but this year have experienced a difficult start losing their three opening matches. A 10-0 away defeat at Harling Griffins was unexpected with the home side winning all four games. George Cody’s triple won 16-14, John Davis won 12-11, G A Hume won by 18-6 and Carl Sturgess returned a 21-12 win as Harling Griffins moved top of the table with maximum points from their first two matches. Carleton Rode also lost at Connaught, this time by a narrow 6-4 margin. A tremendous performance by Carleton Rode’s Mike Newby, Terry Newby & Karl Newby saw them win their game by 30-4 which earned their team the two match points as total shots finished at 58-50 in Carleton Rode’s favour. The 6-4 points win was earned for Connaught by winning the other three games which included a 20-10 win for Mike Parsons, Malcolm Southgate & Mike Minshull. Wortwell have started their season well in the Waveney League winning three of their four opening matches and now top the table. At home to Earsham Margaret Roll, David Elliott & Anita Lambert won their triples games by 11-3 & 9-4 and Chris Roberts & Ron Saitch won their pairs games by 12-2 7 9-4.  Derek Seaman & Tony Oram were unbeaten in their pairs games with a 15-4 win and a 6-6 draw to earn Wortwell a 7.5 – 1.5 home win on points, 76-37 on shots. In the Coastal League Woodbastwick Owls lead the way on 51 points with Gorleston Links Blue second on 39 points. Woodbastwick Owls won 14-4 at Bradwell Robins following a 14-4 away win in their local derby against Woodbastwick Eagles. Bradwell Dynamos are third with two wins from two games after winning 13-5 away to Gorleston Links Blue.
