Halvergate retain Bure League title with eight straight wins

Halvergate entertained rivals East Tuddenham in their last match of the season and a home win completed a successful defence of the Bure League title. Mathematically the visitors could still have snatched the title away but needed a 10-0 win and to outscore the home side by 89 shots and that was never going to happen. Jacky Smith, David Crosby & Jason Woods quickly extinguished the visitors hopes with a 15-11 win against Trevor Brown’s triple. The other first half game went Tuddenham’s way as Chris Willies’ triple beat David Lamb’s triple by one shot. The second half was also shared with Halvergate’s Robbie Lamb winning by 15-9 against Mike Smail while Simon Willies replied for Tuddenham with a one shot win against Keith Cooke’s triple. With the total shots 59-51 in Halvergate’s favour they collected the two match points for a 6-4 win and that made it eight wins out of eight. In the Bure Leagues other match Thorpe Marriott entertained Hevingham and a close match ended with both teams on 49 points. Andy George and Derek Sheldrake skipped their Marriott triples to wins of 15-10 and 13-10 respectively while Selwyn Goldsmith’s Hevingham triple won by 17-9. The other game finished at 12-12 between Tony Turner and David Sharpe. With the match points shared Thorpe Marriott finished with a 6-4 home win due to winning on two mats and drawing a third.
