Vital points for Halvergate in title quest

Defending Bure League champions Halvergate gained two important away victories in their quest to retain the title. Going into their match at Hevingham the champions had not dropped a point yet but will be happy with an 8-2 win. Donna Lamb, Ryan Fox & David Lamb were in great form recording a 25-8 win against David Sharpe’s triple while Robbie Lamb’s triple won 20-11 and Keith Cooke’s triple won 20-7. Halvergate’s Jackie Smith, David Crosby & England’s Jason Woods were involved in a tough match against Pat Williamson, Pat Hall & Selwyn Goldsmith where little separated the triples throughout a game that was tied at 9-9 with two ends remaining. But two shots on the fourteenth end and a single on the last end saw the Hevingham triple deprive Halvergate of their first points of the season. Halvergate’s next match was at fellow title contenders East Tuddenham who replaced the injured John Turner with Forncett’s Mike Smail. Jackie Smith, David Crosby & Jason Woods returned to winning form for the visitors crushing Sheila Hook, Rob Howlett & Chris Willies 19-6 while David Lamb’s triple held home skip Trevor Brown to a 12-12 draw to leave Halvergate 3-1 up on points at the break. Mike Greenacre, Steven Lamb & Keith Cooke added a 15-9 win against Robin Amos in the second half but Steve Hall’s triple lost 15-6 to Simon Willies as the home triple scored their only win of the night. The 7-3 away win for Halvergate leaves them in an excellent position just four points behind Tuddenham but with a game in hand. Halvergate’s only remaining away match is at Horsford BC while their other three games are all at home.
