4 out of 5 wins for Norfolk Over 60's triple not enough in Easingwold

The Easingwold Open Triples in North Yorkshire again attracted a large entry that this year included a triple from Norfolk Over 60’s. Hevingham’s Teresa & Selwyn Goldsmith, with Saxlingham Nethergate’s Geoff Payne, made the journey north to compete in the event and won four games out of five but it was not enough as North Yorkshire’s Paul Whitcombe, Les Lambert & Matthew Jackson reeled off five straight wins to lift the trophy. Norfolk’s first game saw the clash of two county chairmans as Norfolk Chairman Goldsmith faced North Yorks Chairman Joseph Newsome with the Norfolk Over 60’s triple winning 14-9. Their second game saw a tight 10-8 win before they slipped to defeat by 12-9 in their third game. They bounced back with a heavy 15-5 win in their fourth game before completing their games with a 17-7 win against D Jarvis. The 36 triple event was well organised by Geoff and Joyce Hughes but one triple had to withdraw late in the day bringing the number down to 35.
