Hawksworth lands second county title with Mann

Wymondham's Chris Mann and Deaf Sports' Laura Hawksworth claimed the Norfolk pairs title seeing off Morgan Warnes of Horsford BC and Gary Best of Bob Carter in a fiercely competitive final. For Mann this was his third pairs title with three different players and for Hawksworth is now her second county title after her mixed fours win last season. After four ends the final was locked at 3-3 but the next two ends changed the shape of the match with a single then maximum four scored by Mann and Hawksworth gave them an 8-3 lead. This prompted Gary to swap with Morgan but only two singles emerged for them over the next two ends as a brace claimed by Hawksworth had seen them win the match with an end to spare as they led 10-5. It was a fitting end that had seen Laura claim multiple shots in the run up to the final and showed her range of shots capable under pressure. In the third fourth playoff Simon Warnes of Horsford BC and Keith Cooke of Halvergate beat Halvergate's Kerry Greenacre and Wortwell's David Blundell 13-7 which looks to have at least secured them a nationals place for their efforts in a solid performance. The semi finals saw a close match between Mann and Hawksworth, Greenacre and Blundell with Hawksworth's final wood again claiming shot when the match looked to be heading to an extra end with the score 10-8 and Blundell playing a fine last wood to hold two only for Hawksworth to fire and get shot to see them through. The other semi final saw Warnes and Best beat Warnes and Cooke 12-5 with three three's in the match providing a one sided result in the end. The quarter final results were L. Hawksworth 10 M. Woods 5, J. Forster 4 D. Blundell 15, G. Best 9 S. Willies 5, K. Cooke 7 J. Pye 6. Hakks win
