Double triumph for Norfolk against Essex

Norfolk Premier swept to a 31-9 home win against Essex Premier despite Essex putting up a good first half showing which left Norfolk just 9-7 up at the break. But Essex were put to the sword in a second half where they could only add two more points to their score. Gary Best opened the first session with a 23-5 win while Neil Davidson drew 13-13. Owen Cranston & Keith Cooke were also in super form winning 23-11 while Nigel Willard & Simon Willies lost by just one shot. The second session was drawn with Jason Woods, Morgan Warnes & Simon Warnes winning 13-10 while Jenny Walker, Debs Sparham & Jon Sparham lost 14-11. In the rinks Robert Howlett, Robbie Lamb, Jamie Forster & Melly Woods lost 9-7 while Karl Newby, Ryan Fox, John Turner & David Lamb won11-9. A great opening session in the second half saw both Gary Best & Neil Davidson winning their singles games while heavy wins for both Norfolk pairs secured the bonus points in that discipline as well. The final session saw Jon Sparham’s triple win 17-10 and Simon Warnes’ triple win 21-12 to secure the triples bonus points. David Lamb's rink won their second game of the day by 13-9 which was enough to earn the rinks bonus points as Melly Woods' rink only lost by 11-9. Norfolk “A” beat Essex “A” 24-16 and getting on top of their opponents in the pairs, triples & rinks although Essex “A” took eight of the ten points in the singles where a 22-7 second half win for Robin Amos was Norfolk’s only success in that discipline. Kerry Greenacre & Lewis Cranston looked again a class above as they won their pairs games by 27-6 & 22-6. Mike Smail & John Jarvis won their opening game 25-4 leaving Norfolk gaining eight points from ten in the pairs. Another eight points came Norfolk’s way in the triples where Janet Pinchen, Steve Hall & Melvin Barker won 18-6 & 19-13 while Terry Newby’s triple won their second game 21-4. Both rinks won a game apiece but also gained the two bonus points for shots. Joan Costello, Elaine Willies, Steve Easter & David Blundell won their first game 17-5 while Angela Bond, Steven Lamb, Mike Boswell & Bob Oatway won their opener 14-8. Mike Smail & David Sharpe were awarded their plaques for completing three games for the county.
