City Shield action

The City Shield produced a superbly competitive two leg battle this week between Horsford Gold and Thorpe Marriott. Both matches were drawn 4-4 on points but Gold are through to the next round with an aggregate 97-80 shots advantage. In the first leg at Horsford Gold home skip Ray Ayers won by 17-3 while Mick Dale added a 13-7 win. For the visitors Robin Amos won by 15-4 and Derek Sheldrake won 15-11. In the second leg at Thorpe Marriott it was Gold’s Ray Ayers who did a lot of the damage to the home sides hopes as he skipped his triple to a 23-4 win and was supported by John Bugg’s triple who won 15-10. For Thorpe Marriott Robin Amos won by 14-5 and Brian Turner won by 12-9 but it was not enough to stop Gold’s progress in the knock-out cup competition. The first leg between Costessey and Horsford Heroes was drawn 4-4 with Costessey taking a seven shot advantage to Horsford Heroes for the second leg. Roger Frank skipped his Heroes triple to an 18-6 win with John Aggas adding a 15-13 win for the visitors. Mike Ottaway’s Costessey triple scored a 20-2 win while Daphne Matthews added an 11-8 win for the home side.
