Early winter season action across the county

Thetford continued their great start to the Breckland League season with a 10-0 maximum home win against Carleton Rode. Kate Crawshaw, Peter Harvey & Jason Martin beat Terry Newby’s triple 24-9 while Chloe Suffolk’s triple weighed in with a 17-10 win against Trish Taylor. Peter Scarborough’s triple added a valuable 21-7 win against Neil Davidson with Kacy Suffolk’s triple completing the full house of wins beating Karl Newby’s triple 15-14. A close encounter at Forncett saw the home side finish just two shots ahead of Shropham for a 6-4 home win after a great second half recovery. Chris Bailey, Elaine Aberdeen & Andy Rawnsley of Shropham opened with a high scoring 25-16 win against Nigel Youngman’s triple and Kathy Girling, Jimmy Delaney & Kevin Tingey added a 14-6 win for the visitors against Mark Watson’s triple. After the break Andy Hutton, Gill Coleman & Becky Humphreys scored a one shot win against Shropham’s Peter Walker while Martin Humphreys, Jan Smail & Peter Lock clinched a home win for Forncett by beating Chris West’s triple 24-6. Waveney League action saw defending champions Broome start their defence of the title with a 8-1 win at Haddiscoe. Last season’s runners-up Wortwell won 6-3 at Derek Barley’s Carlton side while Bradwell won 5-4 at Ilketshall. The Coastal League is now in full flow with defending champions Bradwell Dynamos off to a good start with two wins in local derby matches. They beat Bradwell Acorns 15-3 and followed that with an 11-7 away win against Bradwell Robins. Another local derby saw Bradwell Robins win 15-3 at home to Bradwell Acorns. Last season’s runner-up Woodbastwick Owls won their opening match by 14-4 at Gorleston Links Blue. Woodbastwick Eagles scored a huge 18-0 points win, 82-26 on shots, in their first game at home to Gorleston Links Red. Martham Mallards played their first match of the season at Bradwell Robins and will be delighted with their 10-8 win. In the Friendly Afternoon League Thetford won 8-2 at home to Hingham with Glynis Holbrook's triple beating Graham Tweed's triple 18-6. Watton won 7-3 at home to Harling with Janet Smith, Sue Clark & Carole Cole winning 13-10 against Colin Hayman's triple. In a local derby Shropham Green won 7-3 at Shropham Red with their top scoring triple of Godbold-Cornwall-Townsend winning 16-4.
