Lamb and Woods retain Bure Pairs title

David “Minty” Lamb & Jason Woods completed a clean sweep of Halvergate victories when they successfully defended their Bure Pairs title at Upton on Friday evening. Going through the evening unbeaten means that Halvergate have won all five trophies this season having already seen the Bure League, Bure Cup, Bure Singles and Bure Triples all secured. The Halvergate pair opened with a tight 5-4 win against Horford’s Chris Walsgrove & Sally Bates who threatened to upset the form book early on. In their second game they produced a more comfortable 9-4 win against East Tuddenham’s Jan & Mike Smail and followed that with an 8-2 win against Hevingham’s Lesley & Brian Turner. Meanwhile Thorpe Marriott’s Gavin Gray & Richard Perkins had also strung together three wins beating Horsford 5-3, Hevingham 10-0 and East Tuddenham 5-4 so their final session clash would be a championship decider. Going into the game the Thorpe Marriott pair held a one shot advantage in shot difference so a draw would be enough to win them the title while the Halvergate pair needed to win the game. David Lamb & Jason Woods opened strongly with a three on the first end followed by a five on the second end and a single on the third to lead 9-0. There would be no way back from this for Gavin Gray & Richard Perkins but they reduced the deficit to 9-4 by winning the last three ends to secure the runners-up spot.
