Waveney League Cup Final Report

The Waveney League Cup Final was played at Wortwell Community Centre on Wednesday 27th March 2024 and was contested by teams from Ilketshall St Andrew and Earsham and was watched by a very good crowd. The evening started with a pairs match between David Baker and Gail Hart from Ilketshall against Colin Colden and Colin Thoroughgood from Earsham on mat 1.  It was nip and tuck all through the game with Ilketshall going into the last end 8-4 ahead.   Earsham were holding three shots and with the very last wood of the game Colin Colden drew in to make it 4 shots and drew the game 8 all. On the other mat was a triples game between P Nobbs, G Eagling, and J Hodge (Ilketshall) against R Laws, J Thoroughgood and L Merridale (Earsham) which was rather a one-sided affair which Earsham won 10-3. The next game on mat I was another triples between A Andrews, R Andrews and T Meadows (Ilketshall) against J Kelly, J Talbot and J Murray (Earsham) which resulted in the only win of the evening with 8 shots to 4 for Ilketshall. On mat 2 there was another pairs game between T Hodge and K Balls (Ilketshall) and S Coe and D Talbot (Earsham) which was another game of nip and tuck and ended up 9-7 to Earsham. At the half time break the score was 31 shots to Earsham and 26 to Ilketshall. After the interval the reverse fixtures took place which really favoured Earsham as they gradually increased their lead and the match finished up with Earsham winning by 75 shots to 42.
