Anglia Bowls to close

Anglia Bowls, whose premises are situated off Edward Street in Norwich has announced that it will close down. A statement issued by the company said “It has not been an easy decision for the Directors but due to the difficulty with obtaining stock and materials we have decided to close on the 30th November 2022. We would like to thank all our customers, clubs and associations for their custom over the last 37 years.” Owner Mark Hedges has been an active figure in the sport and was instrumental in establishing bowls at Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton-on-Sea where their second retail shop was situated for many years. He was Chairman of the Norfolk Short Mat Association from 1988 to 1990 and his marketing of short mat bowls, by arranging taster sessions at many village halls in Norfolk, led to an explosion of membership numbers at that time. Many bowlers from that time will remember buying their first second hand bowls from Anglian Bowls Centre’s van outside the village halls. Certainly Mark, and his company, have a special place in the history of bowls.
