Jack Pye chasing £500 first prize in SMPT British Open

Wymondham’s Jack Pye will start as one of the contenders in the SMPT British Open at York & District Indoor Bowls Club this weekend. The SMPT World Ranked number 12 has been drawn out in Group 6 with four other English bowlers and the Norwegian Gunner Frantzen. Jack and Nigel Nicholls will be the two bowlers expected to qualify from this group and they meet each other in the opening session at 9am on the Saturday. In a truly international field bowlers from England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man, United Arab Emirates, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland & New Zealand will be taking part. Other than Jack Pye the English players likely to be in the mix are SMPT World Ranked number 1 Steve Proctor, World number 3 James Trott and Dom Reed, Martin Simcock, Mitchell Young & Danny Winmill. World Ranked 2 Jonathan Payne of Belgium and World Ranked 13 Joel Hagar of Sweden are also players to watch. The SMPT British Open Cup winner will collect a £500 first prize with prizes of £200, £100 & £50 for the runner-up, thirs & fourth respectively.
