High hopes that Hingham Sports Hall will re-open

There are high hopes that the Hingham Sports Hall will be back in use on Monday 20th April following a review of the floor by two accredited Sports Flooring Companies today. The review indicated that an immediate light sanding of the whole surface would permit the hall to be used safely in the short term while a permanent solution is arranged. This has been booked for Thursday 16th April and it is Hingham’s intention to resume activities in the Sports Hall week commencing 20th April. It is therefore hoped that the Norfolk Over 60’s Squad Days can re-commence on Thursday 23rd April. The following information was received from the HPFA Secretary today.

The Committee has considered a number of permanent options that are suitable for overlaying the existing floor surface including an epoxy ‘screed’ type cover and PU cushioned sports flooring. The latter surface, Pulastic, is fitted at the UEA Sports Park. It does not require maintenance and is warranted for 25 years. It is suitable for multi-sports and multi-purpose halls such as ours. It meets all the compliance standards set by Sports England and provides a ‘no-glare’ surface for sport, as well as a durable surface for community activities. Installation of this flooring will represent a considerable upgrade to the facilities and a vastly improved surface for all our users. It would require the hall to be closed for one week while fitting takes place.

Thanks to the remarkable efforts of our clubs and supporters, as well as the Sport England Grant, over £17k has been raised to date. A new PU cushioned floor is considerably more costly than the original quote to refurbish the Granwood floor, however the Committee agrees that investment in the floor is essential and today committed to funding the installation of the PU Cushioned Sports Floor from reserves/fundraising as soon as possible.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience and upset caused by recent events, and are keen to progress the works as soon as practicable whilst timing them to cause minimum disruption and acceptable notice to our clubs. We thank you for your forbearance and support, and will continue to keep you informed of progress.
