Thorpe Marriott set for a good season

Thorpe Marriott moved top of the City League with a resounding 14-0 home win against First Bus. After finishing as runners-up last season they have further strengthened their side and look set to be serious title contenders this season. Nice to see Janet Pinchen back in action and she was lead for Lesley Turner and Andy George who produced the evening’s biggest win of 16-5 against Jane James’ triple. Gavin Gray, Brian Turner & Tony Turner also turned on the style winning 17-8 against Glennis Holmes’ triple. Derek Sheldrake’s triple beat Bob Oatway’s triple 10-8 in a close encounter while Robin Amos’s triple beat Steve Hall’s triple 11-5. First Bus fared much better in their City Shield preliminary first leg game away to Costessey where they established a 6-2 points lead to take into the second leg. Only four shots separated the teams as Steve Hall won 10-7 against Graham Tweed and Glennis Holmes won by 10-9 against Joy Townsend. The other two games were drawn between Daphne Matthews and Lianne Mills and Mike Ottaway and Bob Oatway. Two first round first leg ties were also played this week. Horsford Heroes won 8-0 at home to Jarrolds with Linda Chadwick, Les Chadwick & Roger Frank winning 21-8 against Roger Hart’s triple. In a surprise result Windows were held to a 4-4 draw at home by Horsford Blue. Dennis Seaton’s triple won 10-7 against Mark Tuttle’s triple and Tim Flack’s triple won by 14-8 against Nigel Hurn to put the Blues in a good position for the second leg.
