Early season league action

In the City of Norwich League Windows won 12-2 at home to Horsford Gold with Andy Drummee, John Wade & Steve Davies winning 20-2. British Rail won 12-2 at home to title contenders Horsford Heroes with Carol Johnson, Pat Baker & Caroline Banham winning 14-5. The two bottom clubs met with Jarrolds winning 10-4 at Horsford Blue where Sheila Andrews, Hazel Hart & Steven Andrews won 24-1. Thorpe Marriott won 12-2 at home to Costessey with their biggest win a 19-5 result for Aleck Haynes, Brian Turner & Tony Turner. In the South Norfolk League Mulbarton lost 8-2 at home to Saxlingham Nethergate with the visitors scoring 76 shots against the home sides 47. It was Mulbarton’s second home defeat of the season after losing by the same scoreline against SNL new boys Watton Expendables. The first Waveney League match of the season saw Wortwell playing away at Ilketshall St. Andrew on what are regarded as challenging mats.  The visitors got off to a good start winning three of the four games before the half time break.  The Wortwell pairing of Saitch and Elliott recording a 14-6 win over Andrews and Hodge. The second half saw Wortwell extend their lead further by winning all four matches and again recording another 14-6 result with Anita Lambert, Tony Oram and Tom Bell beating Bishop, Baker and Howes.  The final result was 8-1 to Wortwell. The other match played this week saw Haddiscoe win 6-3 at home to Carlton. The Broome v Bradwell match was postponed due to covid at Broome. Breckland League action saw Connaught “A” win 6-4 at home to Carleton Rode with Steve Judd, Graham Etteridge & Paul McDonald winning 23-9. Defending Bure League champions Bob Carter opened their campaign with a home match against Watton Expendables. Despite Carter finishing with a good looking 9-1 home win on points three of the four games were very close on Carter’s fast mats. Alfie Woods, Morgan Warnes & AJ Brown of Bob Carter scored a 12-10 win against Will Townsend, Kacy Suffolk & Chris Willies in a game that saw two of Norfolk’s top skips clash head on. Another tight game saw Carter’s Gavin Gray, Gerald Potter & Gary Best sneak a 13-12 win against Joy Townsend, Chloe Suffolk & Simon Willies as once again two skips with an abundance of England experience came up against each other. Watton’s only league point was gained by Andy Rawnsley, Robert Howlett & George Hume who drew 12-12 against Simon Warnes, Melvin Woods & Jack Pye. The only heavy win of the match was a 21-11 result in favour of Bob Carter’s Jean Woods, Nigel Willard & Jason Woods against Elaine Willies, John Jeffries & Jack Marshall of Watton Expendables.
