Big Short Mat Bowls Week ahead at Potters

A busy week of short mat bowls is in store at Potters Leisure Resort at Hopton-on-Sea where just under 200 short mat bowlers and friends will be arriving on Bank Holiday Monday for the annual East Coast Triples & Pairs Over 50’s Week organised by Teresa & Selwyn Goldsmith of Norfolk CSMBA. The event is one of the most popular short mat bowls holiday breaks around and is played in the famous Potters International Arena. Defending champions Billie Barker & Melvyn Barker of Wymondham and Will Townsend of Hingham will be looking to retain the trophy for another year but will face stiff competition from other triples travelling from around the country. North Yorkshire’s “King” Arthur Jackson is playing with Harling’s George Hume and Jean Retchless of Cambs and are sure to be among the contenders as will Andy Noble, Donna Mills & Michael Rice of Suffolk. Derbyshire’s Maria Kitcherner, Ivan Lunn & Richard Kitchener always put up a strong showing in this event, they finished third last year, and they will take some beating. Cambridgeshire’s former England international Joe Peters is in action playing with Oxfordshire’s Alison & Brian Eastgate while Carol & Bob Taylor of Essex have Wymondham’s popular Val Vardy playing at lead. Chris Prendagast of North Yorkshire finished runner-up last year and this year will be playing with Norfolk’s Steve and Val Easter while Kent’s Susan Alderson, Joan Flin & Jim Flin are sure to be competitive. Potters Resorts have been voted the number one UK holiday park by Which? readers in a recent survey achieving a customer score of 87% and received five stars for various catagories including the quality of facilities, activities and entertainment. Potters has been a pioneer in all-inclusive breaks with their resorts offering fully inclusive experiences, including accommodation, entertainment, activities, food and drink. In the case of the three annual breaks organised by Teresa & Selwyn at Hopton-on-Sea short mat bowls competitions are included as well. Later in the year the Potters Cup Weekend will take place with bowlers booking in on Friday 19th September for the 3 Night Stay, rooms are still available for this event. The last event of the year is the Potters Pairs which is a 4 Night Stay beginning on Monday 20th October. This is currently sold out after achieving an incredible 100% rebook at the event last year . Anyone wishing to be put on a reserve list for this popular short mat bowls break, in the case of any cancellations, should contact Teresa by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots.
