Jarvis, Harris & Hall win Dave Durrant Trophy

Thorpe Marriott Short Mat Bowls Club held it’s annual Triples Tournament for The Dave Durrant Trophy on Sunday 1st July, and again it proved to be a very successful event. Sixteen teams competed in an initial round robin of four groups, with the top two teams from each group going through to the knock-out stage. The winning triple, calling themselves The Swifts, were John Jarvis, Mick Harris and Marjorie Hall, whilst the runners-up were The Nutters, aka Terry Newby, Melvyn Barker and Billie Barker. (Both triples are pictured below) The whole day was played in a competitive but very friendly spirit, and it was especially pleasing to see so many competitors staying on to watch the final matches. Lunches were provided for all the competitors and refreshments were available throughout the day. The main raffle was well supported by competitors donating prizes, as well as Tesco of Drayton which donated the star prize of a hamper of fruit. £100 was raised from the raffle, which will, as usual, be donated to the East Anglian Children’s Hospice. Special thanks must go to Sylvia and Tony Turner who coordinated all arrangements for the day and ran the actual competition. Also particular thanks must go to Janet Pinchen who organised all the teams who took part. Further thanks must go to the Thorpe Marriott team who worked tirelessly all day to make the event such a success. Finally, thanks to all those who came, took part and gave so generously to the raffles. One never knows, the club may hold another one next year!
