Northants make home advantage count

Northants made home advantage count at Cosgrove as they edged their way to a 20-14 home win against Norfolk in the Eastern England Over 60’s League. Honours were even in the first session with two wins each. For Norfolk Geraldine Potter, Mike Tate & Selwyn Goldsmith won 16-6 and Margaret Reynolds, Malcolm Reynolds & Colin Coman won 13-11 but Northants hit back with Brian Nelson’s triple winning 10-8 and Brian Stephenson’s triple winning 12-11.The home side opened up a four point lead in session two with only Joan Costello, Elaine Oatway & Lesley Crowe winning for Norfolk as they impressed with a 16-9 win against Colin Barnes’ triple. The gap opened to six points in session three with Norfolk’s points earned courtesy of a big 20-2 win by Tony Orum, David Blundell & Keith Buck and a 7-7 draw by Selwyn Goldsmith’s triple. Norfolk won the last session 5-3 on points with Kerry Greenacre, Shirley George & Terry Newby winning 12-10, Billie Barker, Mel Barker & Peter Fox winning 11-10 and Lesley Crowe’s triple drawing 10-10 in a game they feel they could have won. All in all it was a very enjoyable match against good opponents, and in a tight league Norfolk have their last two games to play on their own mats and will be hopeful of retaining their title.
