Ryan Fox edges under 18's national qualifier

Halvergate's Ryan Fox had to play for the right to be in the under 18 nationals this season as Kieran Suffolk from new founded club Thetford battled over three match's of ten ends. In recent season's there has been a sharp decline in the number of under 18's in Norfolk with Ryan Fox the only entrant last season which saw him straight into the nationals. It made a refreshing change to see a new face partcipate and the fourteen year old from Thetford did not disappoint and having trailed 9-1 he came back to lose by just 10-7 in the first match. The second match proved to be an even tighter affair and again saw Suffolk come from 8-3 down to trail by just one at 8-7 going into the final end but Fox held his nerve to snatch a single on a measure to win 9-7. The last match was a dead rubber and saw Fox power to a 19-2 win. The first two match's however were a very encourging sign for the Thetford player who can only improve given this his first ever showing of competitive singles play. For Fox he now goes to the nationals again hoping to go further than last years early round knockout exit and his county team experience should set him in better stead for this season.
