Sharpe performance by Hevingham

Hevingham defeated Halvergate 13-11 in the first leg of their Bure Cup First Round tie but it could have been so much better after they had built up an 8-4 interval lead. Penny Jefferies, Aleck Haynes & David Sharpe returned first half wins of 7-3 against David Lamb and 9-2 against Keith Cooke with Alan Bunn’s triple beating Jason Woods 6-4 and Steve Hall’s triple beating David Lamb 6-5. Eve Sole, David Knights & Keith Cooke’s 6-4 win against Steve Hall and Mike Tate, Ray Lamb & Robbie Lamb’s 11-4 win against Maurice Kemp’s triple kept Halvergate in the match. The first session after the break was shared with Hevingham’s Alan Bunn beating Robbie Lamb 11-1 and Halvergate’s Jason Woods replying with a 6-4 win against Steve Hall to leave the match 10-6 in Hevingham’s favour. The penultimate session went Halvergate’s way as Jackie Smith, Steven Lamb & Jason Woods beat Steve Hall’s triple 6-4 and Keith Cooke’s triple drew 5-5 with Alan Bunn. The last session was shared with Donna Lamb, Ryan Fox & David Lamb scoring their only win of the night beating Maurice Kemp 6-2 with David Sharpe’s triple replying with an 8-3 win against Robbie Lamb. Hevingham will have a tough task on their hands defending a narrow two point lead in the second leg away from home. A highlight of this match for Hevingham was the performance of Penny Jefferies, Aleck Haynes & David Sharpe who won all their three games claiming major scalps in the shape of David Lamb, Keith Cooke & Robbie Lamb and collecting a maximum six points. Gill Bunn, Joyce Vincent & Alan Bunn were also unbeaten for Hevingham with two wins and a draw while the best of Halvergate’s team were Jackie Smith, Steven Lamb & Jason Woods with two wins and one defeat.
