Kirby Bedon SMBC Chairman retires after 22 years

After 22 years in the role Kirby Bedon Chairman Selwyn Goldsmith retired from the position at the club’s Annual General Meeting. During his Chairman’s report he paid tribute to another founder member and long time Treasurer Leonora Chilman who had passed away last December and told members that in a way it almost marked the end of an era for the club. He reminisced about the glory years when the club had won many league and cup competitions including the first ever National Club Championships and thanked officers and members for their support over the years. The club failed to find any member who was willing to stand for the position and the meeting agreed for the retiring Chairman to remain in place for the remainder of the Annual General Meeting. Phil Watson was re-elected to his position of Vice Chairman but declined the invitation to accept a nomination for Chairman as did other members whose names were suggested at the meeting. Other members re-elected were Jill Watson as Secretary & Vice Captain, Jan Hewitt as Treasurer and Gerald Chilvers as Club Captain. Teresa Goldsmith retired as a Committee member and this position also remained unfilled after no other nominations could be found. The retiring Chairman advised the Secretary that the next Committee Meeting should discuss filling the vacant posts including Chairman.
