Norfolk win friendly at East Hanningfield

Norfolk played Essex “B” at East Hanningfield in the away leg of an end of season friendly. After a warm welcome by Essex “B” captain Ursula Sapsford, Norfolk struggled to find their usual form at an unfamiliar venue in the first session. Janet Pinchen & Jack Marshall delivered Norfolk’s only win by 12-10 in the pairs while the other three games were all won by Essex. The second session was shared with Sheila Redwood, Graham Mobbs & Trish Taylor winning 16-4 and Ted Redwood, Joan Costello, Graham Tweed & John Jarvis winning their rinks game 16-7. Norfolk enjoyed a solid third session with David Dewing romping to a 24-4 win in the singles and this proved enough to earn Norfolk the bonus points in the singles despite losing the other three games. The bonus points were also earned in the pairs as Trevor Pinchen & Karl Newby won 19-8 and Janet Pinchen & Jack Marshall collected their second win of the match by 14-10. Janet was consistent at lead while Jack showed great composure throughout in his first county team outing in the skip’s position. Another good final session followed leaving Norfolk achieving a clean sweep of the bonus points in all four disciplines. John Jarvis skipped his rink to another good win, this time by a massive 24-3 while Hayley Stratton, Elaine Oatway, Colin Coman & Bob Oatway won 16-3. In the triples Billie Barker, John Poynter & Melvyn Barker won their game by 20-10. The final score was 26-14 to Norfolk on points and 222-150 on shots. Before the match Norfolk squad members Hayley Stratton of Wymondham & Trish Taylor of Diss were presented with plaques to mark their third appearance for Norfolk.
