Shock result in City League as Taverham beat leaders

City League giants Horsford Gold visited Taverham aiming to increase their lead at the top of the table but found their wings clipped as mid table Taverham achieved a creditable 12-2 home win. Nigel James, Pat Hall & Jane James opened with an 8-7 win and Richard Moore, Sheila Sawyer & Christine Pitcher added a 13-5 win to send Taverham on their way to victory. Afer the break Carol Bullard, David Riches & Marjorie Hall scored a third Taverham win beating Ray Ayres triple 12-7. It was left to Morgan Warnes' triple to score Gold's only win of the night by 11-9. Third placed Horsford Heroes took full advantage of the slip-up by the pacesetters as they collected a maximum 14-0 home win against First Bus to keep their title hopes alive. In the Breckland League Forncett entertained Harling Griffins with both sides competing for the runner-up spot. The home side won a close match by 6-4 on points and 55-49 on shots with a vital contribution made by the Watson-Youngman-Watson triple who won 20-8. It was a mixed week for Hingham who won by 10-0 at home to Shropham but lost 10-0 at Carleton Rode. It has not been a great season so far for Carleton Rode by their standards but they hit good form against Hingham. Jill Davidson, Trish Taylor & Russell Davidson led the way with a thumping 29-6 win while skips Terry Newby, Karl Newby & Graham Mobbs all won. Chloe Suffolk’s triple won 19-12 as Thetford beat Connaught 7-3 on points and 58-57 on shots. The big match in the Waveney League saw leaders Wortwell visit Bradwell who have three games in hand on Wortwell and are without doubt in contention for the title. The match proved to be a tight one with both sides winning four games apiece to finish with 4.5 points each. It would have been worse for the visitors but for a solid performance by Anita Lambert, Derek Seaman & David Elliott who won their first game by 12-5 and their second by 13-2 to ensure the points were shared.
