First Bus gain slight first leg advantage

First Bus gained a slight first leg advantage against visitors Forncett in their Summer Cup First Round tie. Di Quadling, David Quadling (pictured) & Bob Oatway scored an excellent 18-6 win in their opening game against Tony Ottewell’s Forncett triple and Linda Tooes, Sue Fox & Lesley Crowe added a 14-12 win against Mike Smail’s triple to secure a 4-0 halftime lead. Forncett enjoyed a better second half though with Nigel Youngman, Linda Preece & Mike Smail beating Colin Coman’s triple 13-11 and Rebecca Humphrey’s triple holding David Sharpe’s triple to a 17-17 draw. This leaves First Bus defending a narrow 5-3 points lead in the second leg at Forncett. Division One action saw Bob Carter win 8-0 away to First Bus but the home side pushed Carter all the way in the first half. John Turner, Simon Willies & Melly Woods emerged with a narrow 13-12 win against Sue Hunt, Lesley Crowe & Peter Fox while Elaine Willies, Jamie Forster & Jason Woods beat Di Quadling, Dave Quadling & Bob Oatway by 15-13. The second half proved more comfortable for the visitors with Melly Woods’ triple winning 21-5 against Colin Coman and Jason Woods beating David Sharpe 17-11. Wymondham were expecting to collect maximum points at home to Thorpe Marriott but the joy of three big wins was dampened by a surprise defeat in the fourth game as Jenny Walker, Kath Frost & John Jarvis beat Jack Marshall, Jack Pye & Debbie Sparham 14-9. It could have been worse as the Wymondham triple trailed 10-1 at one stage. In Debbie Sparham’s first game her triple beat Tony Turner’s triple 23-5 while Roger Steele, Steve Easter & Chris Mann beat Tony Turner 37-1 and Laura Hawksworth, Steve Easter & Chris Mann beat John Jarvis 20-7 to earn Wymondham a 6-2 home win. Division Two favourites Diss won 6-2 at Hingham where Morris Taylor, Trish Taylor & Terry Newby won their games by 12-6 & 15-11. Diss also won 6-2 at Forncett where Diss skips Terry Newby, Trish Taylor & Graham Mobbs won one game apiece. Hingham won 6-2 at Watton with Colin Short, Mike White & Pat Groombridge winning 24-7 against Daphne Braham’s triple. Forncett won 6-2 at home to Watton where Tony Ottewell’s triple beat Will Hoggan 17-7, Mike Smail beat Roger Braham 14-12 and Rebecca Humphreys beat Will Hoggan 13-11.
