Halvergate close in on Bure title

Halvergate started their penultimate Bure League match of the season knowing that thirteen points from a possible twenty at stake in their last two matches would regain them the Bure League Championship title. Having lost 8-2 at Hevingham earlier in the season, one of only two defeats they have suffered, they knew they could not take a result for granted despite their superb unbeaten home record. David Knights, Nigel Willard & Simon Warnes were quick out of the blocks against Pat Williamson, Marjorie Hall & Steve Hall and it looked as if they were cruising to victory until the Hevingham triple fought back with a vengeance. But a good fourteenth end for Warnes’ triple put them in front and they closed out a 17-11 win. On the other mat Halvergate’s Donna Lamb, Jamie Forster & Jason Woods found the Hevingham triple of Gill Bunn, Chris Brooks & David Sharpe trading end for end with them and the game was decided on the final end when the home side ran the jack into the ditch for a 13-9 win. After the interval it was more comfortable for Halvergate as Ray Lamb, Robbie Lamb & David Lamb beat Richard Moore, Alan Bunn & Maurice Kemp 28-6 while Jackie Smith, Keith Cooke & Ryan Fox beat Joan Costello, Teresa Goldsmith & Selwyn Goldsmith 17-8 to complete a 10-0 win leaving them needing just three points in their last game at home to Windows to retain the title.
