It has been announced that this year’s annual Potters Cup Weekend at the Five Star Potters Resort at Hopton-on-Sea will also feature stars from the world of darts. Bowlers will arrive at Potters on Friday 20th September for the annual event which will see the Potters Short Mat Triples Cup take place on the Saturday followed by the optional Potters Cash Pairs on Sunday. Those booking the three night option will enjoy a five course meal with selected wine on Sunday evening and the opportunity of seeing top darts personalities Bobby George, Bob Anderson, Keith Deller and Peter Manley as well as comedian Ricky Grover in the Atlas Theatre. Bobby George is one of the sports biggest personalities, known as the King of Darts, and has starred on TV in programmes such as “The Real Marigold Hotel” and “Cash in the Attic.” Bob Anderson, known as the Limestone Cowboy, was the world number one for over three years in the late 1980s and threw his first darts maximum at the age of just seven. He was picked for the British Olympic Team in 1968 as a javelin thrower but a broken arm before the team left for Mexico ended his career. He then played football for Lincoln but a broken leg in 1970 put paid to his football career but a glittering career in darts was to follow. Ipswich born Keith Deller won the World Professional Darts Championship title in 1983, one of the youngest champions in history. Peter Manley’s controversial personality led to him becoming a “pantomime villain” later in his darts career. Manley’s refusal to shake Phil Taylor’s hand after his 7-0 World Championship thrashing in 2002 led to darts fans booing him for many years.
