No real winners at Wymondham

The result of the match between second placed Wymondham and third placed Halvergate will be welcomed by Summer League Division One leaders Bob Carter. Both the hosts Wymondham and their visitors Halvergate were looking for maximum points to move closer to the defending champions but the resulting 5-3 home win for Wymondham left neither team celebrating. The first half games were both tight but Wymondham edged into a 3-1 points lead by the interval. John Jeffery, Simon Warnes & Chris Mann were given a tough game by Halvergate’s Kerry Greenacre, David Knights & Keith Cooke but won the closing ends to record a 16-11 win. Pat Saunders, Debbie Sparham & Jack Pye failed to make home advantage count in their opening game and were held to a 12-12 draw by Ray Lamb, Josh Baxter & Robbie Lamb. In the second half Chris Mann’s Wymondham triple won again, this time against a Halvergate triple skipped by Josh Baxter. But in the remaining game Jack Pye’s triple was beaten 16-11 after an excellent performance by Keith Cooke’s triple in which David Knights excelled. The result leaves Wymondham seven points behind a Bob Carter side who have only dropped two points all season while Halvergate have seen a twenty point gap open up between themselves and the league leaders.
