Early Norfolk exits in National Triples

Any hopes that the National Triples would prove more productive for Norfolk than the other events held at Melton Mowbray were dashed on a disappointing day. East Tuddenham’s John Turner and Bob Carter’s Nigel Willard & Melly Woods qualified from the group stage after 9-4 wins against both Peter Winter’s East Sussex triple and Barry Thorogood’s Hertfordshire triple. But in the first knock-out round they were beaten 14-4 by Nigel Reed, Don Reed & Dave Sifford of Essex. Jack Marshall of Connaught, Morgan Warnes of Horsford BC & Jack Pye of Wymondham won just one game and lost two in their group but with a shot difference of just one found themselves through in second place. The first knock-out round saw them facing North Yorkshire’s Bronagh Toleman, Lee Toleman & Lawrence Moffat in a game that they lost 11-6. Norfolk’s other two triples failed to make it past the group stage. The all England triple of David Lamb of Halvergate and Carter’s Jamie Forster & Gary Best beat Dennis Mack’s Hertfordshire triple 12-6 but defeats against Gloucestershire and Hampshire triples spelled an end to their involvement. Thorpe Marriott’s Jenny Walker, Peter Walker & John Jarvis beat Cambridgeshire’s Mary Fox, Geoff Ward & Barry Fox 11-3 in their group but defeats against Tony Ealham’s Essex triple and David White’s Hampshire triple saw them eliminated. The National Triples champions were Gloucestershire's Ryan Knight, Tom Clough & Steve Holdsworth who beat Dorset's Emily Thomas, Alex Kley & Sam Harvey 13-1 in the final.
