Wymondham on brink of another Breckland title

Wymondham picked up their fifth maximum home win of the season after beating Connaugth “B” 10-0 in the Breckland League. The first session saw Billie Barker, John Jeffery and Jon Sparham cruise to a 34-4 win while Mary Fisher, Melvyn Barker and Chris Mann added a 24-7 win. The second session saw Roger Steele, Brian Saunders and Jack Pye in great form recording a massive 41-7 result and Pat Saunders, Mark Linsdell and Debbie Sparham rounded off a hugely successful home performance with a 25-6 victory. Wymondham’s next match away to second placed Carleton Rode could see them clinch the title if they record an 8-2 win but recent results in this fixture show they may have to wait till next Monday when they play Banham at home. Waveney League leaders Broome won 7-2 at home to second placed Wortwell and are now nineteen points clear at the top. Third placed Earsham won at home to Carlton while bottom of the table Kessingland won 6-3 at Haddiscoe. SNL action saw two Horsford Heroes home wins that moved them to just three points behind second placed Hingham. Seven shot wins for triples skipped by Chris Woodhouse & John Aggas helped Horsford to a 7-3 win against Shropham. In a close match at home to Connaught, in which both teams won two games apiece, a big 25-5 win for Derek Gaskin, David Claxton & Chris Woodhouse clinched Horsford the match points in a 6-4 win. These results set up an interesting race for the runners-up spot between Horsford, Hingham & Diss. The star studded Hempnall side head the table as usual and look certain to win yet another SNL Championship title. In the Bure League title chasing Halvergate won 8-2 at Horsford BC with Jackie Smith, David Knights & David Lamb winning 23-4. Woodbastwick won 8-2 at Horsford BC with their biggest win a 17-8 result for David Brawn, Les Harman & Lianne Mills. Skips Margaret Harman & Willie Jefferies won their games by 12-6 & 11-8 respectively. Thorpe Marriott won 6-4 at home to Windows with Tony Turner’s triple winning 26-5 against Andy Drummie’s triple. Marriott also beat Hevingham 8-2 with Sheila Redwood, Mandy Marshall & Tony Turner beating Alan Bunn’s triple 25-5. In the Tens League Bob Carter won on three mats at Hempnall so will be disappointed to have lost the match 2-0. Roger Parker & Neil Davidson saved the day for Hempnall with a 22-6 win against Simon Willies’ pair to see their side win by five shots overall. Halvergate are going well and recorded another 4-0 home win. Josh Baxter’s triple opened with a 21-6 win and there was no way back for visitors Hevingham. Coastal Cup action saw third placed Woodbastwick Eagles win 14-4 at Bradwell Robins and 12-6 at Martham. In the City of Norwich League third placed Jarrolds missed an opportunity to close in on second placed Horsford Heroes as they suffered two damaging away defeats. Jarrolds suffered a shock 12-2 loss at Windows who recorded only their third win in seventeen games in the City League this season. Jarrolds also slipped to an 11-3 defeat at Thorpe Marriott. First Bus won 12-2 at home to Sprowston.
