Connaught edge past Deaf Sports in challenge cup

Connaught held firm playing away at Deaf Sports to book their place in semi finals of the Challenge cup with a 6-14 win. The first session of singles saw an entertaining match where Laura Hawksworth's last bowl salvaged an 8-8 draw against Lee Fallows while Robin Amos looked to have given Deaf the shots advantage in the first session with a 12-2 win over Sylvia Parsons. But the fours for Connaught had other ideas as Peter Hambling, Mike Parsons, Derek Liles and Owen Secker recorded a 6-6 draw while a 2-13 win for Diane Quadling, Joe Li-Rocchi, Bob Oatway and Richard Harrison clinched the overall shots by one at 28-29. The second session saw a tactical change that saw Bob Oatway replace Sylvia Parsons in the singles, up against Laura Hawksworth and another intense battle saw Oatway claim the match on the last end by 6-8 while Robin Amos started off poorly against Lee Fallows and eventually went down 10-12. The final session Deaf Sports had to win both fours match's and turn the four shots deficit but that prospect soon evapourated when Owen Secker's four beat Richard Sutton's block 3-13. Roy Thomas' four however took a consolation 10-3 win over Richard Harrison.
