Keith is cooking with gas!

Halvergate opened their Bure League campaign with a 9-1 home win against Horsford Heroes. Keith Cooke, with Mike Tate at lead and Simon Warnes at two, piled on the pressure and the Horsford triple of Carol Aggas, Brian Jermy & John Aggas had no answer as they succumbed to a 35-2 defeat. Thorpe Marriott, in their Bure Cup first leg match at home to Windows, built up a 16-8 points lead to take into the second leg away from home. It was a real team performance by the home side with all four triples scoring four points apiece. Richard Perkins’ triple won games by 9-3 & 5-4, George Clarke’s triple won by 8-2 & 7-5, Tony Turner’s triple won two games by 12-0 and John Jarvis and his triple won games by 5-1 & 10-4. In contrast Windows’ four triples all scored two points apiece winning one game each. Connaught “B” entertained Bob Carter in the first round of the Norwich Cup and as expected the Drayton side emerged victorious. Both opening triples games went Carter’s way with Trevor Brown returning to action in Norfolk by skipping his triple to a 14-1 win against Mike Minshull’s triple while Melvin Woods beat John Winup 9-4. The second session saw the pairing of Jason Woods & Gary Best win 7-5 but Connaught “B” scored a win as Moira Eades & Joan Knox beat Steve Bridge & Simon Willies 8-3. It only took one more session for Carter to bring the match to a premature end as both their triples won again for an unassailable 10-2 lead and Connaught conceded. Carter will now face an away tie against Bradwell in the second round. Also in the first round Sprowston entertained Horsford BC. The opening session was shared with Sprowston’s Liz Mason, Peter Johnson & George Munford beating Tim Flack’s triple by a huge 17-1 margin while Horsford’s Barbara Russell, Tim Blackman & Ted Griffin replied by beating Les Chadwick’s triple 10-3. The teams remained level on points after the pairs session was also tied with Sprowston’s Les & Margaret Harman winning 14-2 and Horsford’s Ernie Mills & Paul Isgate winning 7-5. The home side finally made a breakthrough in the third session as George Munford’s triple won 6-4 and Les Chadwick’s triple won 12-2. The Harmans clinched the tie in the last session with a 9-7 win while Horsford’s Mills & Isgate won their second game of the night by 10-5 leaving Sprowston 10-6 winners on points and facing a trip away to Breckland League giants Connaught “A” in the next round.
